You’re surrounded by brackish water on your journey through life. As we travel down the river we called life, you experience a myriad of emotions and monumental moments. From the blissful emotion of innocence to doubtfulness of self and others, your experience seems never ending. Regardless of the direction you take in the river it feels right, the emotion uncanny and the experience life changing. The one thing that is paramount is that you must remember that the water is brackish. It is filled with everything. The good, the bad, the trials that make you rethink your existence, the decisions that tear you apart, and the celebrations that feels like “best moment ever”. The low tides are filled with pain and frustration that make you feel as though the tide will never return. The high tides are overflowing happiness and joy to the point you don’t realize that you are in a high tide. The moments between the tides makes you rethink where you are, how you got there and where you are going.
You must remember that the water is brackish for a reason. If you experience only freshwater then you never experience the saltwater and vice versa. If you never have doubt then you never attempt to think outside the norm. You must experience pain to realize the pleasures of joys. A decision may feel heartbreaking but without heartbreak you can’t truly appreciate love.
The irony of the story…I went kayaking in the river near my house. While on the kayak ride I saw the normal surrounding you would want to see. Near the end of the journey I saw a 9 or 10 foot gator. Not that big of a deal until I realized that: 1) I was in a sit on top kayak, 2) no clue if he was originally grunting for mating or territorially reasons, 3) not a good swimmer, 4) didn’t have a way of defending myself and lastly, 5) in brackish water. If you’ve never seen brackish water, it’s what my South Florida upbringing calls dirty water. It’s really just water that both freshwater and saltwater animals can live in.
